Timothy Mason

Maître de conférences

Université de Paris 8

Born in London in 1946, schooled at Lincoln Grammar, I worked in legal publishing, advertising and in the Civil Service as a trainee programmer before going to what was then the West Ham Tech to study for a degree in Sociology. After that, I did a second degree in English at the Institut Charles V (Paris VII), followed by a maîtrise in translation studies.

I worked for three years as a lecturer in Sociology and English at the Medway and Maidstone College. I then took a post as lecteur at the University of Tours, later moving to Rouen. During that time, I completed a doctoral thesis parts of which you will find on this site.

After that, I trained as a secondary-school teacher of English, and worked for four years in French lycées - first at François Villon, and then at Limay. Then I worked for a couple of years at the University of Versailles St. Quentin, where I continued to give courses in Didactics and Sociology until 2002. For some nine years I worked as a teacher trainer at the IUFM de Versailles. In September of 2002, I joined the faculty at Paris 8, where I work in the CATD, teaching English to students of social science.

In my research I now mainly concentrate on the analysis of anthropological discourse - although I'm likely to be drawn into other things if my interest is sparked.
