Marking

1. The exam

The end of semester exam counts for half of the marks (50%). There will be two questions :

  1. You will be asked to comment on a quotation relating to the material studied in the modules or in the lectures. I will be looking for evidence that you have studied the concepts with attention and that you have read the texts related to this part of the course. The answer will be written in English. This will count for 35%.
  2. You will be asked to show how you would use a document in class. The document may be taken from a manual used in either collège or lycée. You will show that you know how to identify what is to be taught, that you are able to construct a lesson plan, and to place the lesson in a learning sequence. The answer will be written in French. This will count for 15%.

2. The in-class project

You will also receive a mark for work done in class ; during the seminars, you will plan and present a teaching project. Both the project and your micro-teaching will be awarded a mark, and this will count for a total of 15%. Those of you who contribute to the www site by asking questions or making comments will be able to earn bonus points.

3. The observation report

You will present a report on your 30 hours observation. This will consist of twenty type-written pages (25 lines - double-spaced - per page, 70 signs per line). You may add to this photo-copies of documents such as pages from the manuals, lesson-plans, etc. The pages should be solidly bound together ; individual pages should not be inserted in plastic folders (I may wish to write comments in the margins). This will count for 35% of the total mark.

If you have any questions or comments, you may write to me at tmason@timothyjpmason.com (Just click on the address, and an e-mail window should open. If you don't want to waste time writing the message while on-line, just save it and go back to it later). I shall reply within the week to students from the UVSQ or the IUFM de Versailles - others may have to wait a little longer.
